Every deck starts with the part nobody sees: footings below frost, a properly flashed ledger, and joists sized for the span rather than for the lumber that happened to be on the truck. Where the grade drops away from the house we step the deck rather than stilt it, which keeps the rail heights sensible and the stairs comfortable.

Composite and hardwood go down with hidden fasteners. Railings, lighting and built-in seating get priced as line items in your quote so you can see exactly what each one costs before deciding.
